I love choosing paint colors, flooring, and all the details that make a home beautiful. But the things that make it feel like home to me are usually more personal. A quilt on the couch, family pictures, and a comfortable place to sit and visit make a space feel welcoming.
I especially love having handmade things around. Because I quilt and embroider, I know the time and thought that go into making something. Those pieces have a story, and I love seeing them used and enjoyed.
I want my home to look nice, but it also needs to work for our everyday life. I want good lighting to stitch, room for a project, and somewhere comfortable to relax with my family. If someone comes over, I want them to feel like they can sit down and stay awhile. There may be a project out or a blanket left on the couch, but I hope they feel welcome. That matters more to me than having everything perfectly in place. My home is lived in and not a museum.
