Doctrine and Covenants 1:24 teaches that God speaks to us in ways we can understand. I think that includes more than just the language we speak. We can learn through seeing, listening, and doing, and different things may help us at different times. Sometimes a picture helps something click, while other times we need someone to explain it or give us a chance to try it ourselves. In my design work, I can describe how materials will look together, but putting the samples next to each other often makes everything clearer.
I think Heavenly Father teaches us in these same ways because He knows us individually. We might gain understanding as we look at His creations or see someone’s example. Other times, something we hear in a talk, a song, or a conversation helps us understand a gospel principle. We also learn by doing, whether that means serving someone, acting on a prompting, or practicing faith when we are unsure of the outcome. To me, that shows how patient and personal His teaching is. He gives us opportunities to learn and understand as we grow. It reminds me to have that same patience with others and be willing to explain or show something in a different way.
